Triple National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic sustained a "devastating" knee injury when the Nuggets fell 147-123 at the Miami Heat.

The Serbian center injured himself in the latter stages of the opening half during an accidental contact with fellow Nugget Jones.

His teammate stepped on the footwear of the big man, and he immediately collapsed to the floor clutching his leg.

The 30-year-old, that is leading the league season in boards and assists, recorded 21 points and eight dimes in the contest before suffering the injury.

Jokic is scheduled for an MRI on the following day to evaluate the extent of the problem.

"Immediately, he realized he was hurt," stated Denver head coach David Adelman.

"Injuries are part of the game. Any player that gets hurt, that's difficult, especially somebody as talented as he is. More information will come on Tuesday."

"We'll move on together. Of course, at this moment, I am more worried primarily about Jokic as a person and the frustration of going through an event of that nature."
