The veteran filmmaker has evolved into beyond being a documentarian; he is a brand, a prolific creative force. With each new documentary series heading for the television, everybody wants a part of him.

I got so angry when somebody said, ‘So why the celebrities?’. I explained, ‘These are artists.’ They represent global acting excellence and they animate historical material.”

Nevertheless, no contemporary observers remain, modern media compelled the production to depend substantially on the written word, weaving together the first-person voices of numerous historical characters. The historian argues, a revolution that proclaimed the revolutionary principle of inherent human rights; a brutal civil war, separating rebels and supporters; and a worldwide engagement, continuing previous patterns of struggles among European powers for the “prize of North America”.
