Supporters Call for Custody of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal followers of Ariana Grande are urging that a person who jumped a barricade and touched the actress during the recent Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or removed from Singapore.
A viral clip shows the Australian man bypassing photographers and charging at Grande while the cast walked down a yellow carpet accompanied by fans.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the surprised performer away from Mr Wen, who was seen being escorted out of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram recently that he was "free after being detained", though court documents revealed that he was set to appear on Friday morning. It is unknown if he was formally accused.
Record of Event Invasions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram feed features videos of him disturbing other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney show in June this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the same location last winter.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is obviously a criminal offence," stated an Instagram commenter, in a reply to a video Mr Wen posted of his actions.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" another Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Show Disapproval Over Grande's Safety
Numerous followers blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had spoken of dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a suicide bomb attack at the finale of her 2017 concert in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and injuring many.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" wrote a further comment on Instagram.
Some attendees also criticised event staff at the gathering for not being adequately prepared; while some requested digital services to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Aftermath and Event Details
In footage spreading on the internet, Grande looked startled when she was grabbed by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen comforting her while Mr Wen was removed by guards.
Grande has remained silent on the incident, and the rest of the event proceeded as normal.
Many of attendees had gathered in a mass of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific debut in a Singapore venue, including some who had queued for as long as eight hours before it began.
The film, to be premiered on the 21st of November, is the second of a two-part interpretation of the acclaimed stage production Wicked, which focuses on the surprising relationship between two distinct characters.
The production itself is a adaptation of the twentieth-century book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the character Glinda Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown embroidered with roses.
They were joined by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the most successful movie of 2024 in the UK, and received ten Oscar nominations, securing two for outstanding attire and production design.
