Shock as Popular South African DJ Killed in the City of Johannesburg.
A prominent South African media personality and entertainer has been fatally gunned down in the metropolis of Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a country struggling with entrenched crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the downtown area on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the 40-year-old entertainer was confronted by three individuals, one of whom opened fire on him before escaping on foot.
The motive behind the incident is unknown and no arrests have been made, as per the official statement.
The Fatal Incident
Authorities said that Stock was attacked as he was exiting a location in the vicinity of the city center landmark.
He had spent several hours at the site supervising the implementation of safety equipment, which had been controversially occupied by squatters, it was reported.
"The report indicates the victim was confronted by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they opened fire at him before escaping on foot," an official report confirmed.
Surveillance tape showed a man with dreadlocked hair and dressed in what looked like a security uniform shooting on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ sought to escape after he was shot but succumbed to his injuries across the street.
Officials noted that Stock had an unused firearm and no items were stolen during the attack.
Key evidence, like cartridges, were found at the location.
Call for Public Assistance
Authorities have requested members of the public who may have have information to assist with the investigation.
"Our information indicates they walked a long distance after the attack, and police have been following their trail to find their whereabouts," remarked an authority figure.
Outpouring of Grief
His family member, Nicole Stock, expressed the family was struggling to understand the tragedy.
"Words fail me. I don't have words," she stated.
"Everyone understood he was a representative for countless citizens. He spoke out bravely about subjects not many people were ready to discuss. This is a devastating blow."
She appealed to the community to refrain from sharing graphic images from the scene, saying this was an incredibly difficult time, especially for Stock's young family.
A Multifaceted Career
Stock was the presenter of Ngicel' iVisa, a television program that aired on a popular local broadcasting platform.
In addition to his media career, Stock was engaged in various commercial activities, including security provision, providing elite guarding services and managing safety for major functions across South Africa.
He was also understood to participate in real estate operations and was involved in property reclaimations.

His death has sent the nation reeling and triggered an outpouring of tributes from his audience, the authorities and various organizations.
A senior figure remarked he was angry and saddened by Stock's untimely death.
"He spoke his truth boldly and honestly. He even challenged me and my actions as a public official. He was a pure example of who we should be," was his tribute.
A political leader commented the "audacious attack of DJ Warras in the middle of the day is a trauma for all South Africans".

In a statement, the network he worked for affirmed Stock was known for his magnetism, approachability and intelligent commentary, adding that his legacy "will live on".

South Africa, the region's leading economy, has one of the planet's most severe murder rates, exacerbated by robberies and syndicate wars, with some 63 people murdered daily between April and September, according to police data.
