Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has beaten Oscar Piastri at each of the previous five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the points lead from his teammate by just one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, topped the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before sprint qualifying due at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the points battle, sitting with a 36-point deficit Norris, ended up in 17th position as his Red Bull team ran a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, though minor, when he lost control at corner four early in the session.
The Japanese lost control over the track edges before rotating through the run-off area, and was fortunate to escape with just a slight brush of the barrier.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the high-speed corner leading to the final bend on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in P19, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, 0.619secs off Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
