Nigel Farage Claims Teachers of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Race Issues
Nigel Farage has asserted that teachers would go on strike shortly after a Reform UK election victory, accusing them of “poisoning our kids” by telling children that black pupils are victims and Caucasian students are perpetrators.
During an event for a private US Christian college, Farage outlined his perspective on the UK education system, claiming that the “Marxist left” had “taken over schooling”.
“I’m anticipating a teachers’ strike soon after winning the next general election,” Farage commented during a Q&A session.
“They are corrupting young minds. They instruct children to feel guilt about their nation. They inform an eight-year-old black child that he is a victim and a white child of the same age that he is a perpetrator. They are dividing us, not uniting us. They are feeding this negative culture.”
Reacting to Farage’s claims, Daniel Kebede rejected the notion that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “nonsense”. He pointed out that industrial action must relate to educators’ working conditions, and questioned whether Reform would attack these immediately upon entering government.
“Farage has built his public life on coded rhetoric and currently, like Trump, he is lining up teachers and their unions for a conflict,” the union leader said.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. Neither I nor our union – advocate such divisive theories as he’s suggesting … Should he become prime minister he would undermine state services, particularly schooling … and he would be a disaster for students and learning.”
Reform, which is leading the polls by about 10 points, has provided limited specifics on its educational plans and does not appear to have appointed an education spokesperson.
However, his comments indicated the group would reform the system and the curriculum. Farage declared: “We face an enormous task with education – absolutely herculean. And, it won’t happen quickly; it requires years, years to turn this around.”
He stated that younger generations are receptive to analytical thought, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.
Paying tribute to a conservative activist, Farage said: “My goal for schooling is to teach critical thinking – to educate individuals that there are two points of view and you make up your own mind as opposed to current practices where views are labeled good or bad. This is a huge undertaking in both Britain and America.”
Reform has previously clashed with the UK’s largest teaching union, after the union leader labeled them “far right and racist” and dismissed Farage as “a cheap imitation”.
The politician has charged Kebede of being “a self-declared Marxist” … someone who is absolutely determined that young minds be corrupted at school, their thinking tainted about everything to do with this country” and has argued that the union is trying to indoctrinate teenagers against Reform.
Roughly a million individuals are employed in education in the UK, with educators comprising half and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The major education union has about 450,000 members.
Countrywide walkouts over educators’ salaries and work environment in 2023 led to significant interruptions in schools and extensive missed instruction for students.
At the US event, Farage also vowed to promote the digital courses of the Christian college in the UK. He stated organizations like it were “key to resistance”, noting: “I mean this. I’ll assist garner hundreds of thousands, if not millions of youth to these educational programs. I make that commitment tonight and I’ll do that.”
The college, a small private Christian college, provides complimentary classes. According to its online description: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is necessary for personal happiness and to maintain the benefits of civil and religious liberty. The college furnishes these beautiful courses for free to every interested learner.”
