The beloved crime series AC-12 is officially returning for its seventh installment, announced by the BBC.

A brand new six-episode series written by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the network.

The actress expressed excitement about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together next year."

The previous season wrapped up in recent years with a finale that attracted over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been widespread for some time, but confirmation only arrived this week.

New Challenges for AC-12

The seventh season will open with AC-12 no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by production details.

Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to combat misconduct within the police force.

Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most delicate case so far."

Fresh Face and Complex Case

An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer known for busts of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.

However, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the shadows, plot details suggested.

In a statement, the creator commented: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."

"It's an honor to have had so many fans track the ups and downs of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be returning for a seventh installment."

Mercurio continued: "Corruption in this country is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."

"Beyond the program's popularity but the people I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
