Arne Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot conceded that it was natural for doubts to be asked about his position following a further heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their 9th loss in twelve games, representing the club's poorest run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got a lot of support from above,” Slot stated.
“It would be great to change things and earn three points of course but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I accept my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Talks with Club Management
When asked to expand on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard exchanges I sense the trust. But I've not talked to them since this game so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Issues and Player Response
Slot lamented recurring failings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder remarked.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a period such as this with outcomes like these.”
He finished, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we'll continue to compete.”
“We’re going to try to help the side back to the top, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the top club in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
